Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the 2011 tennis year at Chepstow Tennis club. This time last year, as the incoming chairman, I set out some improvements to the club, things that all club face these days with a few unique Chepstow dimensions. Last year’s committee worked hard to run the club and keep the improvements moving in the right direction, and this year’s committee (mostly the same people) remain just as committed. We believe we offer a good balance of social and competitive tennis, social opportunities outside of tennis (a great recent quiz night, and a skittles evening), and have sought to address the challenges that face all clubs. Recent innovations include an online court booking system, an expanded competitive programme that now includes Junior and veteran teams, and an 11+/Adult club session. We have also tried to improve the availability of tennis balls for all and will continue to fine tune the process in the coming year . A disappointment has been our inability to make headway on facilities improvements, most notably replacement of the hut that is well past its end of life. Unfortunately we have had a few planning (and time) issues but our resolve to replace the hut soon hasn’t changed. None of these things happen without the time and energy of your committee and I would like to thank them for the contribution they make in running the club. Clubs don’t run themselves and the more people get involved the easier it is so I would like to ask everyone to consider taking a more active role. Contact me or any member of the committee for more information. Finally, let’s not forget that it’s all about playing
and enjoying the game. Here’s to a great year of tennis. See you on the courts.
Ian.
